Souler Rythm

Picture of Souler Rhythm's album coverVery downright funky indeed and why aren't they signed yet ...that's what almost everyone who has seen Souler Rhythm in action has to say about them.

This is a 7-piece band of musicians from all over the world who have come together to offer a very unique and original mixture of funk, soul and jazz.

Based in Leamington Spa and Warwick, they have toured the UK extensively as a main act in their own right, and have also supported many major names, including The Average White Band, The Blackbyrds, The Pretenders, Bad Manners, and Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings.

It might be easier to list the places that they haven't played, but venues covered to date include Mole's Club in Bath, Concorde 2 in Brighton, and Ronnie Scott's. No matter how big or small the venue, one thing is for sure - the crowd always gets a fully funky workout.

Souler Rhythm are: Kevin Eaton (vocals), Chris Seager (Saxophone, Flute), Matt Ball (Keyboards/Acoustic guitar), Myles Matthews (Guitar), David Coldron (Electric Bass), Olivier Cantaloube (Drums), Nino Marsala (Percussion).

The music is always positive and melodic, and played with a tightness rarely seen in the live environment.

With more than 140 performances in the past twelve months, Souler Rhythm have built a loyal following around the United Kingdom. As Justine Thompson wrote in a recent review for UK Funk magazine ... ...

"the question is not how, but when ...Souler Rhythm give one of the most dynamic live performances that I have ever seen ...with a frontman who sings with the sweetness of Curtis Mayfield and the soul of Marvin Gaye, backed with a band who look as if they would (and could) play their funky music all night long, this band will undoubtedly be a major recognised name in the very near future"...

You can contact the band on soulerrhythm@hotmail.com or take a look at their website http://www.mp3.com/souler_rhythm

Great Scott Marty! Exciting New Band -'mcfly 88' rise from Leamington Scene.

Described as having 'rollicking good songs' 'mcfly 88' are a breath of fresh air to the music scene in Leamington. Formed only in February, as a result of a 2 sad and lonely songwriters needing a band to perform at the final of a songwriting competition, 'the flyers' (as their growing number of fans like to call them) are just starting out, but that is precisely why you should see them now - while they are still raw and finding their way.

The multi-instrumentalisation of the band (as well as the usual guitars, bass and drums the band boast talents on flute, clarinet, keys and beatbox) combined with the use of both a male and female vocalist and the fact that all members of the band contribute or contribute to self-penned songs makes 'mcfly 88's' sound more original and varied than most. With 6 members and a massive multitude of influences, the sound does not fit neatly into any predefined genre so you will just have to come along and find out! What is assured is that you will experience a hugely enjoyable evening, spent listening to an eager to please young band playing original, exciting tuneful songs with thoughtful lyrics.

Picture of Jinrai performingDo you know what Acid Jazz is? You will certainly have heard the name and may well own a CD of theirs or of one of their discoveries. Following the emergence of Jamiroquai and The Brand New Heavies in the early - mid 90's the label became synonymous with a genre of music.

However, fed up by receiving demos from Jamiroquai/Brand New Heavies imitators, the label shut up shop during the late nineties. Now, with a fresh batch of signings, they are back releasing material by bands taking inspiration from the same influences which spawned the genre but unrestrained by the clich?s associated with the term 'acid jazz'.

"Jinrai 's signing with Acid Jazz puts them alongside the label's other finds ? and with such instrumental acrobatics it's no surprise" sorted.com

In the case of this manifests itself in range of styles seldom seen in today's pigeonholing music market. The timeless quality of their songs puts them above the fleeting trends of the pop market and the range of influences that they draw on causes difficulties in reply to the inevitable question of "How do you describe your music?". The best answer has been 'folk-soul', a loose term paying credit to just a couple of areas from which the band get their inspiration. "Folk-ing great"Daily Star website " ? practically a festival of their own ?"The Fly Hotly tipped for big things, the live performance is a must see, if for nothing else then for the multi-instrumental antics of the band's nine, (count them, nine!), members.

You can catch on their "50 day 25 date" UK Tour in Jan and Feb 2002 at: Moo Bar, 24 Russell Street, Leamington Spa, CV23 5QB on Day 9 (Spa 20/01). On stage at 20:45. A great New Year with Grind Creative Collective

Went to Bath Place on New Years Eve for the Grind Collective - What a fantastic night - great music, great venue and great crowd! Congratulations to Steve and Co for making it a night to remember, can't wait for Kellys at the end of the month!

Starting out as a four piece band with Canadian Kevin Eaton vocals, Frenchman Olivier Cantaloube on drums, Jon Blackford on bass, and Australian born Myles Mathews on guitar, this Leamington band spent some time searching for a keyboard player. In June 1999 the band became a five piece as local keyboard player Matt Ball joined.

Grind creative collective play at Kellys, Court Street, Leam on the last Saturday of every month.

Grind creative collective are looking for e-mail addresses for their e-communication data base.If you haven't checked any gigs yet look for us on the gig guide site or check us at KELLYS on the last Saturday of every month. We are a bunch of party nutters who give our time freely to put on top groove events for any one interested in and around Leam. We make no cash for ourselves and our only satisfaction if finding like minded local people to party with. Please get in touch if you want to be a part of the best party scene in the Midlands

Grind cc has presented a number of very successful community based gigs at Bath place over the last 3 years and due to their consistently responsible approach to the planning and and running of these events Bath place has approached Grind to plan a number of gigs,( up to 8) in the forthcoming year. Grind Creative Collective is a community based group dedicated to the idea of 'local music for local people', over the last 3 years this non profit making group has ammassed enough resources to be able to present a night of entertainment independently, we have PA, technicians, lighting and visuals, djs and a very dedicated and enthusiastic following.

Now that we have a guaranteed venue for a year all we really need is a list of local musicians and bands who would complement a Grind evening and benefit from a little local exposure. We are hoping to locate like minded people interested in performing. We are looking for bedroom based electronic musicians who might not have the confidence to air their work and bands with funk/jazz/breakbeat influences who need a platform on which to perform (fat rhino or superfly blue are local examples of such bands).
