Or is therapy some new fashion statement?

I was there for a while and I still remember some of the people.

help needed for animal shelter
Date: 25 January 2007, 1:45 am
Posted by:  Maureen Sheridan
I am a past student of Leamington College for Girls and now run an animal shelter that I founded in 1996 in Jamaica (which was formally registered as a charity in May 2003). After surviving three hurricanes in only ten months we are now trying to move forward from what has been a very difficult eighteen months. We have made a lot of progress - a new cattery has been donated from Canada to replace the one that blew away in the storms (we saved the cats!), and we have eliminated an epidemic of mange and a tick infestation from our kennels - but we still seriously need help to repair and rebuild our kennels. Many of our dogs are still living in appallingly overcrowded conditions and some do not have shelter from the rain. If yo would like to help all monies donated go to the animals. All management personnel work on a volutnary basis. Website is theanimalhousejamaica.org.

One love from Jamaica.

Hunting Morby's in Southam
Date: 26 November 2006, 6:26 pm
Posted by:  Denise
I am wondering if there any living descendants of Phyillis Morby(b.1891?), William Morby (b.1889?) or Jack Morby (b. 1886?). My Morby's had quite a strong link with Southam and my grandfather was brother to Phyllis, William and Jack. My aunt used to regularly come to the area to research the family tree, but when she died all her work was lost. I believe there was also a Lizzie (b.1912?), daughter of Phillis but not a Morby (my father remembers her!)
Hope you can help
Denise

Free dog walking...
Date: 05 August 2005, 3:53 pm
Posted by:  Jon
Calling all busy dog owners!

I am unable to keep a dog, since it would be shut away in my house on its lonely-only for long periods. However, I would welcome the opportunity to borrow friendly/active dog(s) on an occasional basis to walk them around Newbold Comyn - leaving the owner free to put their feet up in front of the TV.

Interested? Mail me at leam-guide (at) jondh (dot) me (dot) uk or give me a call on O79O3 859O11.

Regards,

Jon

Hello,

We are researching family history and are desperately trying to locate an Albert Maurice Wall - my husband's grandfather. The last we knew of him was that he started work with Lockheed in the 1950's. My husband's grandmother died in 1955, so it is quite possible that he married again.

If anybody knows anything about him we would love to hear from you, as you may be able to solve a family mystery!

Many thanks

We are looking for information about the streets and areas where the series was filmed as well as any first-hand knowledge about the filming. Does anyone have any helpful information? If so please reply to this message or send me an email which I can pass on to them.

Scotsman seeks job

Due to personal circumstances I'm hoping to move from Central Scotland to Leamington in the near future, and am looking for work in the area.

I'm willing to do pretty much anything and can be very flexible regarding salary. I'm especially good with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, and other manufacturing and distribution related systems. I currently plan and book road transport to a couple of sterilizers, and then coordinate the movement - mostly in sea containers - of medical equipment from the UK to bulk storage facilities in France, Germany, Singapore, USA, and occasionally other destinations I also produce monthly and quarterly sales vs purchase forecasts for the financial analysts.

I'm comfortable in manufacturing, quality systems auditing, purchasing & supply, planning, logistics, admin., and can do physical warehousing work. I've got a clean driving license, an open mind, and the ability to learn very quickly. I'll consider anything - I just need an income which will allow two people to start a new life together in a beautiful part of England.

What makes a good night out?
Date: 18 March 2003, 12:00 am
Posted by:  Claire & Gilly
We're two project workers from Warwickshire Museum researching what makes a good night out in Leamington/Stratford/Kenilworth etc. in 2003. This is for an exhibition later this year comparing nights out in the 1950's with now.

It's a chance for you to give your opinions and record them for posterity! You can e-mail us if you're interested in knowing more. It would involve interviewing you about the local club scene and your idea of a good night out (and maybe taking some photo's of you if you would be happy with this).
Hope you can help (Oh go on, it'll be a laugh!)

Researching James Ernest Shepherd
Date: 28 January 2003, 12:00 am
Posted by:  Joyce
I am researching my family history and I know my Mother and Father were from around Warwickshire and perhaps Leamington Spa. My Father's name was James Ernest Shepherd, he was born March 28, 1895. He served in the first world war in the RFA (Royal Field Artillery) and immigrated to Canada in 1919. He married my Mother, Annie Letitia Morby, on May 24, 1919. She was born on October 30, 1900 and came to Canada in 1920. I believe her mother died around 1949 or 1950. I do not have any names of brothers or sisters. Thank you for your help.

Can anyone help me get magazines in South Africa?

I am looking for any magazines on Home Decor, Gardening, Horses, Dancing & Ballet - some of these interests are either non-existant here or impossible to purchase as they are very, very expensive. Is there anyone who can send these to me through the post? - old and outdated are very welcome and many will be passed on to other ladies who also cannot afford to buy these magazines. If you can help then email me and I will give you my PO Box address here in South Africa.

Thank you so much.

I am looking for a lady I met while stationed with the U.S.Air Force at RAF Upper Heyford, in 1974 - 1976. The lady's name is Shirley and she worked at the telephone exchange, at least on a part-time basis. I believe Shirley's last name is Clever or Cleaver, but I am not sure. I did not treat this lady very nicely and I have never forgiven myself. I would like to contact her to at least apologize. Thank you for your assistance.

I have also performed at norwich arts centre in conjunction with the firsr BBC music live festival and have recently become involved in the Attenshun scheme in coventry which will be promoting local acts to indie record labels around the cov and west midlands area... anyway...the basic point of this is to ask A)if anybody reading this would like to book me for a performance (be it as a headline or support actin leamington)and B)anybody can give me advice as to where i could get gigs in leamington and the (near) region. cheers lewis

Price of soft drinks a rip-off
Date: 16 September 2002, 12:00 am
Posted by:  Ray Duffy
I am concerned over the price both independent and branded pubs charge their patrons for soft drinks. Today I went to Baroque and was charged £3.00 for a pint of black current and lemonade, much more than my friends who had a pint of Lager and pint of Guinness. This is repeated in most pubs in the town. It is simply a rip off.

I was 11 years old. I remember everyone in my class wrote a letter to me and the parcel was sent down under. I never did reply to those letters. I think the guilt has finally caught up with me. Would like to hear from Thomas William Gifford, and also a classmate who I remember only as "Pelvis".

I've just moved to Leamington for my new job. You don't need Pete Tong to tell you that the clubbing scene here isn't quite Cream. I propose to rescue you all. After spending the past four years in Manchester and Liverpool DJing and having just come back from DJing for the summer in Ibiza, I'm looking at livening up this place. So could people please send me your reactions to this and if you'd be willing to help me or have any useful contacts for me, please let me know. Thanks

What's missing from Leam is...lapdancing

I've been to most of the clubs but I see a gaping hole that really should be filled. What Leamington, if not Warwickshire, needs is a lapdancing club. Why o why o why have we not got one. Going to Birmingham (which has at least 4) gets a bit tiring, if you can ever get tired of naked women that is.

Long lost son found through Leamington-guide.com
Date: 15 July 2000, 12:00 am
Posted by:  Admin
Back on 11th May this year, Frixos Eliades from Cyprus sent us a note saying that she was trying to find her son. Here's part of the note Frixos sent.

My son's name is Alexander F. Eliades and due to a divorce, I had lost touch with him since he was 5 yrs old. He is now eighteen yrs old. I would like him to know that I miss him and wish to see him again.. I have been living in Cyprus for several years, and I am sure that he needs to know that he has a half sister 12 years old, who constantly asks about him. Finding Alex would be the happiest moment in my life.

We are very happy to be able to report that within a few weeks of the message going up on this noticeboard, Alexander and his mother were in touch. Here is the note Frixos sent us last week

Just a couple of weeks ago, Alexander's friend was surfing into the leamington guide and had found my advertisement, and consequently informed Alex. Alex has actually called me over the telephone for the first time and you can just imagine of the emotions that run through both of us. I have already been to Leamington to spend a weekend with Alex, and he is now coming to Cyprus to spend time with me and his half sister. So, thanks to Leamington guide, the internet and especially to you, I have found my son again.

Gareth Holder looking for friends from the '70s

I am looking for Alex Barr, Julia Ward, April Whitehead or any Kingsley Girls from early mid 70's

I lost touch with these old friends over the years as we all moved away. Alex's family moved from Leamington, Julia moved to Belgium for a while, April to South Africa, and then back to the Home Counties. I haven't seen or spoken to any of them in over 20 years, but I often think about the fun we had in our teenage years. Any friends who know them or their whereabouts these days should drop me a line. I'm coming back to the UK for a couple of weeks this summer and would like to catch up with old friends.

Dawn - people have been trying to contact you but your email address no longer works. Please let us know what your current email address is.

I have been living in South Africa for the past 25yrs, I was born at the 'Warnford Hospital' in Leamington Spa in 1959. I have been very happily married for 23yrs and have two children (my eldest son now lives in Leamington, he moved there 1yr ago and loves it!) I'm looking for any information on a village near Leamimgton, about 7 miles away - Long Itchington! Thats where I lived until I was 16yrs old, my Father is buried there after a car accident and so are many others who were once friends and relatives. I used to go to Southam High School. I often share my childhood with my own children and would love to have photo's of this place as it is still very much a part of me - can anyone help!

We've scanned in a map of Long Itchington for Dawn but no luck with photos yet.

I was wounded on a mission over the mainland in Mar. 44 and after initial surgery at a local hospital near our base near Attlebridge, I was sent to a hospital in or around Leamington Spa for two months while I recovered from the wounds. I would like to know the name of the hospital and it's approximate location. I know that I rode a bike into Coventry one day. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Any old friends of Edith Whitehand?

I'm writing on behalf of my mother Edith M. Whitehand who grew up in Warwick. Any friends or relatives please email me.

My Mom was born August 14, 1925 at the Warnford Hospital.

My Mom's parents were Edith Corden Wickson and Joseph Whitehand. They lived at 24 Grove Place, Leamington. Her mother died when she was about 10 years old at which time she was placed in an orphanage.

She resided in Warwick from about 1925 - 1938.

She is interested in knowing about what happened to her father.

Cheers, Martin.

Chris Lawrenson looking for Julie Sharpe, Rachel Ward & John Brown

I'm trying to track down (hopefully current) Leamington persons that I've hopelessly lost the addresses for:

* Julie Sharpe (25ish, musical, was working at Sainsburys, was/is going out with a guy called Craig)
* Rachel Ward (31ish, Lived opposite The Townhouse pub, ran a proper massage parlour pointedly called Just Massage, top person)
* John Brown (25ish, went to uni in Bangor in 1996, looked like Elvis Costello)

I'd like to meet up with them and any other Leamington bods who were unlucky enough to meet me.
