I had been eagerly awaiting the opening of this chip shop and it has more than lived up to my expectations. The tastiest fish in chips in Leamington by far. They are cooked really well, but the best thing is they are cooked in beef dripping. You know that sick feeling you get after eating too many greasy chips? Well these chips make you want more! The batter to the cod was crispy, no soggy bits anywhere and all for a fiver, which is what you would pay elsewhere in Leam. The decor is simple with some old fashioned adverts for daddies sauce and marmite and the like. The wooden bench and the floors is a nice finishing touch.

They have only been open nine days and already seem to be busy. Apparently they are still waiting for supplies so if you prefer haddock and mushy peas aswell you may have to wait a few weeks, definitely will be going back.

After a recommendation from a friend, my partner and myself discovered an Italian restaurant which allows you to forget where you are in a intimate restaurant which serves fine Italian food. The staff allow you to relax and are always friendly and the prices reflect the quality of the food. Try the strawberry tiramisu. The best I've ever had. Only the toilets let it down but I think yhis restaurant has a big future. If Italian is your thing, give this a go. ??

If you like Mexican then this is the place in Leamington. There is a sister branch in Stratford which I have as yet not had the chance to enjoy. You get a good meal with a menu firmly in the Mexican theme although there are a few boring dishes for the less inclined

The service I have had has always been good and the food equally as good it is small and in late evenings. A booking is a good idea. Don't worry if you have a big group as you always seem to get squeezed in. The drinks can make the price of the meal climb but not unreasonable. Try the cocktails and the Margarita Jugs !!

Tried out the new Diner on Spencer Street last night. First impressions were great. Decor fab, great 50's style throughout obviously a lot of money spent to achieve authentic look. Menu as you would expect from Diner Style i.e. Burgers, fish & chips with a few interesting additions (Grilled Sardines for Appetizers, Americano Salad containing nuts, cranberries etc.) -Prices a little on the high side but all food cooked fresh and good sized platefuls. What lets this place down is the service. Food took around 40 minutes to arrive - only 3 of us were dining and this wouldn't have been a problem if we'd only been offered more drinks but our waitress was rather preoccupied as two of her friends were also dining that evening. The two burgers my companions with arrived without the dips stated that they came with so we had to call back the waitress who had almost dropped our plates in her haste to return to her friends table. Getting Ketchup, condiments etc... was an ordeal and we sat with empty glasses and had no offer of more drinks until my husband finally got her attention and asked for a pint of Coors and she returned ten minutes later with a jug of water and 3 glasses - note she was British, so no language barrier, we had been served earlier on by a foreign waitress who was much better but unfortunately for us she disappeared halfway through service. My friend and I decided to just stick with the one drink as it seemed to be too much hassle for the waitress to serve us - so they missed out on some guaranteed cash through the tills as we were both in a drinking mood. We gave up trying to get their attention to order desserts despite really wanting an ice cream, and decided to go elsewhere. The final straw was when we went to pay. The waitress couldn't read the writing on our bill and asked us to tell her what we'd had. Overall impression was that they didn't need our business to pay for their expensive fit out so we won't be going back unless we hear that they've sorted out their service problem. A shame because the place has a lot of potential and there's nowhere else like it around Leamington. Disappointing!!!

Dorjes Restaurant has without any doubt replaced Solo as Leamington's best restaurant.

I was recommended to go by a friend who raved about the place, and for good reason. The wine list is phenomenal, with a combination of household names and slighty more rare wines all hand-picked by the head chef Alastair, who was only too happy to make recommendations and offer us bottles from the cellar "which haven't made it to the wine list yet." If, like me, you like to go with the flow I strongly recommend you listen to his advice, the wines were exquisite.

To start with my wife had the most fantastic home made tomato soup and I tried their garlic mushrooms. Quite simply I have never had garlic mushroom as good as these before, ever! We both followed this with Fillet steaks which were cooked in a mushroom and Brandy sauce which, again were fantastic. The atmosphere was perfect as well, intimate but with a bit of a "buzz" to the place.

The prices are comparable to the other good eateries in Leamington but well well worth it! Our next visit will be for one of their Sunday lunches as I hear that they are first rate as well. Five stars - no question.

We have had many memorable meals at Eleven as well as enjoying good value 'Menu Terroir' evenings. Eleven deserves every success;long may it continue to please us and all its other devoted customers.

Five Rivers is a modern Indian restaurant which provides fresh, authentic, tasty food with a careful balance of spices. The lunchtime buffet is very popular, providing tasty food and good value.

The following extract is from their website:

"The inspiration behind Five Rivers is to bring something new, fresh and vibrant on to the British Indian dining scene. In order to achieve this revolution, we went back to the roots of Indian cuisine. Studying all aspects of Indian food in the different regions of India. This led to a magical discovery that in Britain, we had not even touched or tasted the flavours that the Indian Subcontinent holds. Indian cooking is about theatre, professional cooks showing off their skills in front of an audience, using equipment and cooking utensils especially developed over centuries to enhance the flavours of the food."

Visted this restaurant with constantly changing name last week. Me and the wife popped in for a quick bite prior to a night at the pub watching the Monday night game (Middlebrough v Man Utd). The Golden Dragon seemed like the perfect place as it's now a buffet style job.

I must say the food was suprisingly good. I strongly recommend the Chilli Spare Ribs nad the Thai Style Chicken. Service, where needed, was pleasant and very efficient. But best of all was you can eat for £10.80 - what a bargain.

FAB Burger in Leamington

16 Jun 08, 11:14 Above expectations

At last, a really tasty, reasonably priced burger in Leamington Spa. Good menu with some new combinations alongside traditional burgers. I had a cajun chicken burger while my husband had a guacamole and bacon burger while my son stuck to a good old cheese burger. There were also lamb and veggie burgers which sounded tempting. The staff were really friendly as well - we'll be going back.

Typical cheap & cheerful Indian restaurant. Specialises in Balti dishes, with lots of chicken baltis. When we eat there, the meal came to about £9 a head including drinks, so not bad. Mind you, pretty much everyone felt a bit dodgy the next day; but perhaps that's just part of the essential cheap indian experience.

We tried the new restaurant next to Shalimar last Saturday and were quite disappointed. From the outside it looks quite promising - bright - good design and busy. However unless you want a very traditional menu then its not really worth the price..

If you could guess the top traditional chicken, steak and fish dishes they are on the menu (chicken chassuer, steak diane etc.!!, bread & butter pudding- profiteroles etc etc.)

I thought it might be a unique unusual restaurant in Leamington - but no - however it will probably be well loved by a different generation to me!!

Kanes falls resolutely into the "cheap and cheerful" category. The decor is very basic with fairly random posters stuck up over the walls (we thought we detected an Irish theme, but perhaps not).

You get a three course meal for £12.95. Kanes does not have a drinks license. Its £1 per person for corkage. They do the basic soft drinks.

Starters included one of my favourites, deep fried brie as well as soup and pate. Examples of the main courses on offer are steak (£2 surcharge), duck, beef with stilton and mushroom stroganof. Whilst all this food was perfectly edible, none of it was amazingly nice. The veg was just boiled and stuck out on plates. In short, we were left with the feeling that this was a meal we could have cooked ourselves and probably improved on.

I think this restaurant has potential, but they need to put a fair bit of work in before it gets there.

I went here quite recently with the family, the atmosphere was very cheerful and traditional. The service was excellent and the waiters were very helpful. In total it came to about £9 per head which is a bargain for the very nice 3 course meal. The decor was beautiful and exquisite. All in all i will be coming again definitely as it was nice for the whole family, they specialise in chicken balti dishes.

Kismet provides 'grown-up' home-cooking. It is a mixture of both sophisticated and traditional cuisine. It has an extensive but considered menu that creates a sense of location as well as taste. The food is a spice sensation and is of a high quality without stretching the purse.

The ambience is traditional with Indian music playing and no tacky pop music. The restaurant has just had a facelift. It has contemporary yet still traditional decor. The staff are informative and helpful.

I think Kismet is Leamington's best Indian restaurant. It has avoided the contemporary Indian westernised cuisine, yet it produces rustic sophistication. It is fine food indeed.

Mr Love is a famous chef, and rightly so. The menu is creative and delicious. In London one would expect to pay at least £50 for a 3 course meal of this calibre. £25 may still seem a lot but the quality of the food is only matched by Mrs. Love's courteous and efficient nature.

The dining room is intimate if not a little beige.

A place to take a loved one for a truly special anniversary.

I visited the Moorings, after it was recommended by some friends of myself and my husband. Although the menu was a little restrictive, the specials were as the name suggests - special. The service was fantastic, with all the staff very well presented. After commenting to the manager that the experience we had was very good, she thanked us for taking the time to praise that staff, and hoped we would come back soon. After a short conversation with her, we discovered that she had only been the manager for a short time, and that a new menu with more choice was due to be starting in early november. After reading the reviews that have been placed here, it seems as though bad management was the problem - one that looks to have been solved. I suggest to those who have had poor experiences, to wait until novemeber, then go back - as in our expeience - it will definately be worth it.

Return to this celebrated art of eating at Mor. 4-course Fondue Experience includes traditional cheese fondue and salad, meat, fish or combination of meat and fish to choose for the entree, finish off with chocolate fondue served with fresh fruit. Allow 2.5-3 hrs. If this sounds too much, there is a la carte menu where you can choose cheese fondue for 2. For quick lunches try the crepes. What MOR could you ask for.

(formerly The Dragon Palace)

Just in case your readers wanted to know, the Dragon Palace is now the Oriental Star. It has changed its interior decor & staff. The menu has not varied at all except for the addition of chips and a larger salad bar. It is cheaper than its predecessor, the food is functional to good. It's a good place to go for cheap Chinese food, and I'd recommend it.

Off out with the wife again. This time to the Paprika Club (Hopefully, I got the name of this place right). What a cracking curry house! The decor was a bit special - not a paper tablecloth in sight.

I had Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi, with Mrs J opting for Chicken Morchi (I think). We shared a special fried rice & the house speciality naan bread - which I highly recommend. The best Ruby I've had in ages. As good as you'll get in Birmingham or Manchester. Same old story next morning though.

Price of meal - 15 - 25 pounds a head ex. drinks for a 3 course meal.

Having arrived at the resteraunt to be confronted with a very nice atmosphere, decor etc I was really looking forward to a nice meal. There is quite a good selection of food on the menu and once ordered the food was quite quick to arrive at the table.

One of the dishes arrived stone cold and had to be sent back only to arrive back at the table a few minutes later having obviously come straight out of a microwave :(

The general quality of the food wasn't bad - but wasn't brilliant. To add to a bad experience extra drinks were added onto the bill at the end which had to be removed. Overall it's not so cheap and not so cheerful ! I don't think I'll be rushing back in a hurry.

Piccolinos has been around for over 20 years and there's another branch in Warwick (31 Smith Street). This is one of the better Italian restaurants with decent food and friendly staff. The breadth of the menu is impressive with more than ten starters. For the main course there's pizza, pasta, meat or fish with well over thirty dishes to confuse even a hardended diner (not to mention some staff - one waitress told us that the desert of the day was "butter" ... tasty!).

The food was good, but not excellent. Two of us had medium-rare steaks which came out near enough well done; the rest had pizza or pasta. The cost of the meal came to £23 a head including three courses, wine and coffee. You can have a reasonable three course meal without drinks for around £14 if you avoid the steak.

The restaurant is on two floors; larger parties tend to be put in the basement. One word of warning if you feel the cold. The girls in our group were all cold downstairs (it was December) but the restaurant couldn't turn on the central heating because the people upstairs would have sweltered.

Piccolino's also does takeaway pizza & pasta.

Much like every other Pizza Hut in the country, and quite probably the world. Reasonable, cheap pizza and pasta dishes in a child-friendly environment. Although we've given both two stars, we did prefer Pizza Hit to the Deep Pan Pizza Company. They had a far better selection of thin-base pizzas; and the deep pan pizza bases were tastier.

Shalimar, more or less opposite the Apollo 4 cinema, likes to think of itself as an upmarket indian restaurant. We visited on a Friday night andhad no problem booking a table for 15 three hours beforehand, so we got the impression it wasn't too packed out.

Inside, the restaurant is certainly a step up from the average indian. The restaurant is roomy and includes a small dance floor overlooked from dining balconies on both sides. It was also clean - a fair amount of work has obviously been put into the decor.

Service was good with curteous and friendly staff who didn't seem to be put off by some members of our group being a liitle too loud, and crude, than strictly neccesary.

The food was very good both in variety and quality with a significantly greater range of starters and main courses than you get at most indians. The quantity was certainly enough as well. The price is probably enough to put off most of the closing time crowd with a starter and main course coming in at around £15 a head before drinks. - well above the prices in the Bath Street restaurants.

Shalimar also put on entertainment : a belly dancer, table magician, jazz music and others on different nights. The night that we went should have been a belly dancer night but unfortunately she was ill.

We'd heard good reports of Shalimar from several people so we were glad to get the opportunity to finally confirm them.

Smith's was busy when we visited on a Saturday evening. It claims to be the friendliest restaurant in Leamington and whilst that might be an exaggeration, they're certainly making the effort.

The restaurant is a good size with perhaps twenty tables. The evening was everything to be expected from a good quality restaurant. The menu is what I would call modern British food with a variety of steak, venison, chicken and fish. For our starter we had soup and a fruit platter - both delicious. For the main course we had some very servicable (though not outstanding) beef fajitas (one of the few exceptions to the British food) and rather tasty vension with black pudding. We were surprised to see no vegetables with the venison but it was quite filling enough without them. Dessert was an excellent banoffee pie and strawberries in red wine.

The service was good and prompt throughout and the evening a definite success. I'm sure we'll be going again.

This is by far the best restaurant in Leamington and indeed I think it would stand alone wherever the location. The food is modern and fresh with bold flavours and unfussy, yet precise presentation. The goats cheese tart with vine tomatoes, followed by cannon of scotch beef, finished with chocolate fondant is my favourite meal there yet. Lovely atmosphere - candle-lit, intimate, excellent 'jazz' decor and music. Shame I was eating alone on this occasion as I was away on business! But a great place to go with someone special!

i was expecting a very nice up market re4staurant but had bad experiences fromthe word GO. we had booked but the face from the woman behind bthe bar was one of surprise disbelief . from there things didnt get any better as we found her unfruiendly and rigid. we ordered a relatively expensive lamb shank meal which was so tough it felt like it hadnt been cooked. they serve glasses of wine (I didnt want a bottle as husband drinking beer) in 175 ml glasses.I asked if they do another size and she said yes - no problem . We struggled through the tough meal , her unwelcoming presence around the place and then at the end asked for nthe bill. we hadnt admittedly complained about the tough inedible lamb shank but were horrified when we saw the bill which said six pounds and .70 pence for a glass of wine ( even London prices have never been so high) she was not accepting my complaint at the extortionate cost nor did she back down. I wish now I had mentioned how awful the quality of meal it was too.
never again

Go to the Kismet for a really nice curry and friendly service. Although we have had it delivered before, it is definitely better to eat in - for some reason it does not travel as well...

The menu is very good, and the staff are very helpful in making recommendations. The proprietor is a great character and always makes us very welcome. We have had some cracking nights in there, whether just as a couple or with a big group.

Very occasionally the service at the end of meal has been a bit random - e.g. trying to get your bill and get out! but the staff are so friendly that this is not a big problem.

The Red Lion at Hunningham is the best pub/restaurant in Warwickshire for a multitude of reasons:
In the summer you can sit by the river and enjoy the sunshire surrounded by coutryside and in winter you can cuddle up inside next ro roaring fires.
The food is locally sourced whereever possible and freshly prepared every day, is always of the highest standard and the yorkshires on a Sunday are devine!
The owners and staff are welcoming and always quick to smile, to lift the heaviness of a bad day at work and make you feel as though you are among friends.
In short, I have visited many pubs and restaurants within Warwickshire but have never found the complete package before, in the Red Lion Hunningham I have! I wish them every success and thank them for all their efforts and passion, which is evident every day in what they do.

Late one Sunday evening in Jan 2005 I took my partner to the Saxon Mill to show her the wonderful exterior of the pub/restaurant. Inside, WOW! the place had been refurbed since I was last there.I was very impressed by the groundfloor drinking area. Cosy and intimate.Upstairs was a wonderfully laid out eating area (non smoking). We were served quickly and politely. And the food was exellent.I will certainly return.

In the same spot as the Thai Village used to be. I was horrified when I found the Village had closed down, but I have to say that its replacement has far surpassed any other Thai restaurant I know of.
With excellent service and food, I cannot fault this place - we've been 3 or 4 times since they opened and have gone in small groups and a large party and they have always been absolutely spot on.
Fantastic - I would recommend this restaurant for anybody who likes Thai food - and for those who have never tried it.

My girlfriend and I chose this restaurant for our (delayed) Valentine's Day celebration. It wasn't very crowded (maybe because it was 2 days after V-Day), but I decided not to expect much from it anyway, especially as I had never had Thai food before.

However, I have to say that we were quite pleased with the whole experience: the interesting vaguely-Eastern decor, the mock-spice-stalls at the entrance, the service, et al. The food was nothing short of excellent, with a bursting, strong taste (if that is your thing). The menu is fairly extensive, as is the wine list. There was an unsure moment when our waitress struggled in her attempts to uncork the wine, but otherwise the service was competent and pleasant: accommodating but not quite interfering.
All in all, perhaps 4/5 is a wee bit generous, but then just 3/5 would be an injustice, and we would would definitely recommend it.

The Whale replaced Toyk in Autumn 2007.

As the restaurant was new we thought we'd give it a go.

The interior / exterior hasn't really changed from Toyk apart from a lick of paint making it a bit lighter than it used to be and lots of pictures of whales (which wasn’t on the menu).

Food was ok with a fairly simple menu with usual mains such as steak / lamb etc.

Prices were pretty much similar to other restaurants in Leamington such as the basement of Wildes.

The waiting staff was fine, sadly the management let them down by being rude and unapologetic. If there are limited deserts on the menu then at least an apology would be appropriate, not being told that we couldn't have any as another table had ordered them all! Similarly when we queried over billing for items we had never had the response verged on being rude.

Perhaps they are having teething problems whilst opening... i think after our first experience I am unlikely to return unless perhaps some reviews hear will convince me otherwise!

On the site of the former Kane's restaurant on Warwick street, rather discreetly tucked away, is this inviting and somewhat elegant restaurant.

Although from the outside, seemingly small, upon entering the bar you walk through past the bar, through to the large and impressively high ceilinged restaurant at the rear.
We ate here upon the recommendation of friends and I have to say that it thoroughly lived up to its increasing reputation. The restaurant itself in the evening is intimately lit with simple yet seductive candlelight, including the focal point of the restaurant; a large banquet style farmhouse table in the centre of the restaurant upon which stand two large antique candelabra; combined with the soft tones of ella fitzgerald playing while we ate.

The food far exceeded what we were expecting for such an unassuming venue, and certainly exceeded the standard of anything we could have had elsewhere for the same price. (only £12.95 for two courses... I regularly eat at restaurants in leamington which demand this price for a main course alone and which in all honeslty could not live up to this standard, despite reputations of excellence)

I had a smoked salmon and prawn salad to start while my partner chose a garlic mushroom bruschetta with parmesan. Both of which were delicious and presented in a manner i have found to exceed five star restaurants.
Both the duck breast and the Seared chicken which follwed were once more exquisitely presented and tasted even better. (I had the chicken from the daily specials menu which was stuffed with sitlton and avacado and served on a bed of rocket tagliatelle)

The service was immaculate without being intrusive or stuffy and the staff knew exactly what was in each meal and how they were prepared which made a refreshing change.
Our waitress was able to recommend wines which complimented our food well and also desserts based upon what she genuinely thought we would like. (I found it a sign of genuine personal waiting rather than just brand training when she recommended a sumptuous tarte au citron from the specials list because it was her favourite, rather than opt as many waitresses would, for the most expensive option)

We stayed for the duration of the evening following dinner and shared several bottles of wine whilst talking in an atmosphere that seems to have been created to invite diners to sit and stay over a bottle of wine and enjoy their evening rather than hurry them out of the door.

This restaurant is one which I in all honesty cannot recommend highly enough and seems to be becoming one of Leamington's best kept secrets as genuine commendations pass through word of mouth rather than relying on reputation alone. Already this is a favourite of many locals in leamington society and see no reason this should change.

Notwithstanding the fact that this is based in probably the yukkiest pub around, this has got to be one of the best chinese restaurants around.

It is always quiet when we go, the food is really excellent and the prices are good. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6.15 to 10.30 they have an all-you-can-eat buffet for £6.95/adult £5/child - under 5's free, which is a really good bargain for us as we have a 7yr old who only eats chips and a 2 yr old who will eat for England!! They have a really good selection, Chicken with Ginger & Spring Onions, Szechuan Beef, Sweet & Sour Chicken , noodles, rice, starters etc etc. about 30 dishes altogether.

They don't have highchairs but I take my portable one and they really love kids. They also deliver, but we only live 2 mins away so can't comment on that. 10/10 for service, quality and value.

Wilde's Wine Bar & Restaurant is an independently owned establishment, which has been operating successfully since 1976. In other words, for more than a quarter of a century it has been a neighbourhood bar and restaurant which attracts 'regulars' from as far away as London as well as the West Midlands. In the last two years, it has been under new management, with two young and experienced chefs specialising in modern British cuisine with a French flavour. It lists an eclectic and idiosyncratic selection of more than 50 wines, primarily but by no means exclusively from the Old World. Its basement bohemian atmosphere (the walls of the Regency basement feature modern art from artists who are friends of the owners) belies the friendly professionalism of kitchen and waiting staff, but it remains un-stuffy and informal.

It is A newly opened contemporary style Italian restaurant with a casual atmosphere, serving mainly pasta and pizza dishes, It allows children and also has a good wine list. The food is served suspiciously fast with a patronising smile, but is very nice and will fill you up and Don’t be fooled its expensive looks and hard to pronounce menu as an average pizza with a drink will only cost you around £9 although it also has starter and dessert options as well.
it is good for a heavy lunch or casual tea, overall i give it 7/10.
